The Beauchamp Tower, Tower of London, London, c1926. By Donald Maxwell (1877-1936). The Tower of London, officially Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London, was founded towards the end of 1066 as part of the Norman Conquest of England. The 13th century Beauchamp Tower marks the first large-scale use of brick as a building material in Britain, since the 5th century departure of the Romans.
