Buffalo (Syncerus caffer) with red-billed oxpecker: Very large; shoulder height:1,4 m; mass: males average about 800 kg, females 750 kg. Habitat requirements include a plentiful supply of grass, shade and water. Buffalo are heavily built animals, ox-like in general appearance. Both sexes have horns, those of the males more massive than those of the females. Buffalo occur in huge herds numbering up to thousands. A single young is born during the summer months.
