The south coast is, like all the islands of the GIreater Antilles, mucli hotter thnn the north, the trade-wind being cut off by the lofty mountains of the interior, some of them being over 8000 feet high. IXAGUA—BAHAMAS. This island, although not belonging to tlie Antilles, being in fact a dependency of Jamaica, may be mentioned here, as it is in close proximity to the north-east point of Cuba.
