A TEAM OF IRISH COMEDIANS. 419 A few performers have been successful in makingreputations as North of Ireland characters, but theyare very few. Ferguson and Mack were for a time atthe head of this class of variety comedians, but theygot lazy, failed to exhibit anything like extensive orig-inality, and carted their old jokes and stale business to England and back, until they have fallen prettymuch to the rear ranks. Harrigan & Hart, who havea large theatre in New York, and whose play, Squat-ter Sovereignty, had a run of almost a year, are nowthe best known and really the cleverest of the membersof the profession who make a specialty of Irish Barry and Hugh Fay have made fame and moneywith their laughable Muldoons Picnic, and thereare probably a score of others whose effor
