The Katownia (Torture House) is the section on the lower left, with a Renassaisance court house above, and the high tower beyond is the Wieza Wiezienna (Prison Tower). Originally built in the 15 th century, the Foregate's defensive role was lost when the Upland Gate was built in 1574. It was then turned into a prison.
