Swollen arm of a 61 year old woman. This is a lymphoedema, an accumulation of lymph fluid in the tissues of the arm. In this case it is a complication of breast cancer treatment. The woman had a mastectomy 10 years previously, to treat carcinoma of the breast. As a result of the surgery the lymphatic vessels in the armpit have since become blocked. Massage or a compression bandage may help reduce the swelling.
