The beetle is very stout and broad, with three thoracic processes, which are sometimes long and horn-like, giving rise to the local name "; DYNASTES Kirby. D. tityus Linn. Throughout the State; locally common in sandy districts; flies like a bumble bee on bright, hot days in July, occasionally in swarms; the larva is sometimes injurious in sod, eating oft' the roots so that the top can be rolled up like a carpet. EUPHORIA Burm. E. areata Fab. Throughout the State; very local and seasonal IV. V and IX; sometimes abundant. E. sepulcliralis Fab. Hopatcong (Pm); Del.
