Ariane 5 exhibit. This is the Ariane 5 rocket model at the Cite de l'espace (City of Space) museum and theme park near Toulouse, France. The Ariane 5 launch system is used by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the French space agency (CNES) to place satellites and other heavy payloads in Earth orbit. Ariane 5 launches, carried out by Arianespace, began in 1996. Over 60 successful launches have taken place since 1998. There are two solid-fuel booster rockets either side of the 55-metre-high main stage. The Cite de l'espace opened in 1997.
