The strike valley of Capitol Reef National Park in Utah. This is the view southward from atop the middle of the three hogbacks in this valley. On the top right is the Navajo sandstone of the Waterpocket Fold. The three hogbacks are the remnants of softer formations, once a part of the Waterpocket Fold, that have since mostly eroded away. On the left is the undisturbed Mancos Formation, nearly 100 million years younger than the rest of the rock in this photo.
