Taketoiri noOkin

The Taketori monogatari, or tale of the bamboo taker, is generally credited to the Shitago Minamoto, who died in 953 and is said to be the oldest novel extant in the Japanese language. In the tale, an old man goes every day to get bamboo and so was called Takatori no Okina, or Bamboo-taking old man. Taketori no Okina is pictured here.
