Nurseries (Horticulture) Wisconsin Milwaukee Catalogs; Plants, Ornamental Catalogs; Flowers Seeds Catalogs; Gardening Equipment and supplies Catalogs. C. B. WHITNALL & CO. 21 Iceland Poppies. (Papaver nudicaiile, varieties.) The fragrant elegant crushed satin- like flowers are produced in never ceas- ing succession from the beginning of June to October. Not only are they at- tractive in the garden, but for elegance in a cut state they are simply unsur- passed, and they last quite a week if cut as soon as open. They flower the flrst season from seed, though they are hardy herbaceous plants, and will last for sev- eral years. Iceland—Mixed colors, 10c. Papaver (Tlaiicum Tulip Poppy. Magniflcent species, originating from Armenia, and belonging to the Khoeas group; the specific name refers to its bluish green leaves which are broadly pinate or lobed. The plant rises to a height of from 12 to 14 inches, and pro- duces, well above the foliage, 50 to 60 large and splendid flowers of the most vivid scarlet imaginable. The two outer petals of the flower bear a similiar- ity to a saucer in which are set two erect petals, of the same color, forming a pouch-like receptacle enclosing and seemingly protecting the anthers. When the flovi^ers begin to fade 2 black spots appear at the base of the petals. From a mere description, no adequate idea can be gained of the strikingly beautiful effect presented by a bed or mass when tbe plants are in full bloom, the color being, seen from afar, of such glowing richness as to perfectly dazzle the eye; the beholder is at once reminded of the well-known Scarlet Due Van ThoU or Vermillion brilliant tulips. It commences blooming early in June and flowers abundantly for a period of 6 to 8 weeks. 25 cts. each. PHLOX DRUJUMOjVDI. An indispensable, constant blooming favorite which should occupy a prom- inent place in every garden for clumps or massing. Hardy Phlox. La
