During the period of Mr. Smithsconnection with this company it has undergone severalchanges in name. This in turn was taken over by the ConnecticutRailway & Lighting Company, which later was merged intothe Consolidated Railway Company, and recently has beenknown as the Connecticut Company. In his new positionas general manager of the Albany & Hudson Railroad, effec-tive on August 1, Mr. Smith will have charge of 40 miles ofinterurban third-rail line operating between Hudson andAlbany, as well as the city lines in Hudson and gas andelectric lighting plants which furnish lights to eight largetowns between Albany and Hudson. Mr. Smith recently waspresented with a diamond stud as a mark of esteem fromthe employes of the road which he is leaving. Mr. Dow S. Smith, whose resignation as general super-intendent of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company was notedlast week, was bom in .June, ISti, and is a graduate of theUniversity of Minne-sota.
