A Late Bronze Age village of 24 round houses within a drystone walled enclosure of around 4 acres. The wall is some 3m thick & up to high; the remains of pens for sheep & cattle were found against its inner face. Excavations at the end of the C19th found charcoal, pottery & flint plus such features as cooking holes, hearths, raised benches, paved floors, & porches to keep out the weather which was deteriorating by around 1200BC. The houses had conical roofs of wood & thatch or turf. Water was provided by a stream running through the N half of the compound.
