Sad, that with all the privations, trialsand conflicts through which we had passed, and with all that vastexpenditure of life and resources, that we were no nearer ourobjective point Richmond. Nothing had been gained; it willall have to be gone over again. It was now necessary that some additional changes in the armyshould take place. T
