In 1702 he was commissioned by Philip Spain to paint some pictures for his chapel at Madrid. His works in both fresco and oilare numerous and chiefly of sacred subjects. He left many pupils and was a musician andpoet as well as a painter. He died at Naples, April 5, 1747. His style in painting waseclectic, but he had the love of strong contrasts of light and shade which is characteristic ofthe Neapolitan School. II. 177. Virgin and Child.
