The Native American child & a doll that stopped a war

Engraving from Chatterbox magazine of 1900. The accompanying story says that the US government had assigned lands to the Apache that they refused to settle & the Army had been deployed. That the child had wandered from her wigwam & into the enemy camp whose commander gave her the doll to comfort her & returned her to her Mother thereby creating a change of felling which led to successful negotiations & the Apache agreeing to settle the allotted lands. The article claims it is "a matter of history" that it happened. I can find no evidence for it one way or the other, but it's a good story.
