SAFFRON (Crocus sativus).—Do NOT Deceive Yourselves. A LIGHT infusion of Saffron tends to raise the spirits ; but if indulged in to excess it produces intoxication. If its emanations be inhaled in moderation, it is said to be restorative ; if too freely breathed, the effect is injurious. SAGE (Salvia officinalis).—ESTEEM. Various species of this genus are of much value. At one time our garden Sage was of high repute as a medicine, 179 N 2.
