Railway and locomotive engineering : a practical journal of railway motive power and rolling stock . the cap-nut on the oppositeside of the application piston cylin-der ; this makes the. upper portion ofthe distributing valve ready to be prop-erly cleaned and repaired. To care for the automatic or lowersections of the distributing valve thesame as the upper section, as ex-plained above, it is only necessary forthe repairman to unlock the screwshown in the lower section of printbelow the face plate; this screw con- interlocks pistons and opening ,4 inchtwo-way cock, as shown in air line atfront of bench; this admits air underpiston in cylinder, as shown in print, forcing the piston face plate and valveupward until valve has reached itsproper height, when lockscrew istightened up and J4 inch cock closed,in which position the air from thecylinder escapes to the atmospherethrough a small release port in cock, after which lock-screw holds pistonand valve to the height desired. Whenit is desired to lower valve, all that isnecessary is to unlock screw holdingpiston, and the valve will descend. DEVIC1 USED IN REPAIRING DISTRIBUTING AND ENGINE TRIPLE VALVES. trols the height to which the repair-man might desire any portion of thevalve to be adjusted to suit his con-venience; for instance, if the repair-man desired to refit the equalizingslide valve to its seat, the valve can belowered or raised to the most con-venient point to suit the height of therepairman, at the same time the valve canbe revolved to any angle so that the re-pairman can get the best advantage tosuit the ray of the light, whichis so essential in making these re-pairs. The raising and lowering ofthis device is accomplished by un-locking the lower lockscrew. which slowly on account of a sufficient cush-ion being set up to care for the weightof the valve, due to the small openingin the 54-inch cock release port. You will note in the upper part ofprint broken away shows special fit-ting in caring for repairs t
