The coal handling facility at Lyttelton Harbour, near Christchurch, New Zealand. Coal is sent hear from the West Coast by rail for coal is sought after coking coal and is exported to China, Japan, India and Australia for use by the steel industry. The facilty has recently expamded on reclaimed land, 34 hectares in 2017 and 6 more in 2020. The facility installed specialist equipment to stop the spread of coal dust pollution to the town of Lyttelton. The plant is capable of working 24 hours a day.
