Vessel with Stirrup Spout, 500-200 BC. The stirrup spout first appeared on the North Coast in the ceramics of the Cupisnique culture, a Chavín contemporary, and remained an important North Coast spout form until the time of the Spanish conquest. It probably had symbolic meaning, now lost.
