Drake, who has just beenelected president of the Galena SignalOil Company, as mentioned in the lastissue of this paper, comes from afamily which has been prominent inthe oil business, his father, for whomhe is named, having been president ofthe Standard Oil Company of Indianaat the time of his death. The present Lauren J. Drake is ayoung man to head such a largeorganization as the Galena Company,being only thirty-nine on his lastbirthday. That he should have beenselected speaks volumes for the execu-tive ability which he has displayed andthe work accomplished during his fifteenyears connection with the company. His record can be breifly sum-marized. Bom in Keokuk, Iowa, onAug. 27, 1880, he attended the publicschools in Omaha and Chicago, and. I>. J. DRAKE was graduated from the Shattuck Mili-tary School in 1899. After six yearsservice with several important oilcompanies, where he acquired a gen-eral and broad knowledge of the oilbusiness, he joined the Galena Com-pany in 1905 as representative in theMiddle West. His election as vice-president and director, with head-quarters in New York, occurred in1916, and as president of the com-pany on Feb. 24 of this year. is also president of the branchesof the Galena Company in France,England and Brazil. The outstandingcharacteristics which have led to hisbusiness success are his resourceful-ness, untiring energy and Drake is a member of the Rail-road Club and Whitehall Club of NewYork City, the North Hempstead Coun-try Club of Long Island, the FranklinClub of Franklin, Pa., and the Wand-ango Country Club of Reno, Pa. ton, Del.
