The fire prevention bureau,which effected a material reduction in the fire hazards,made 2,515 inspections and reported 518 violations. Thebureau of building inspection made 3,800 inspections andreported 644 violations. Prompt action was taken bythe department in all cases. The department repair shop has been a factor inmaintaining the efficiency of the department at a lowcost, although it has been in service now only about ayear. There is a blacksmith shop with a forge, a paintshop, a turning lathe, a planer and other machinists, a blacksmith, a woodworker, a painterand three helpers are employed in the shop.
