"Ahead of any of the previous years," is the general verdict of all in the trade. The last week, too, was a good one. Stock was not any too plentiful and Christmas prices prevailed all the week. Judging from the way the trade bought on Saturday and Sunday, they must also have experienced a good New Year's business. Stock all through the week was of extra good quality. Boses and carna- tions were plentiful, but were cleaned out daily. There was quite a good sup- ply of long, fancy Beauties at $9 per dozen. On good red carnations the price went up to $10 per hundred. The supply of these was inadequate. Vio- lets remained at $10 per thousand and the price cleaned them up daily; last year the price was held at $20 to $30 per thousand and the trade would have little to do with them. Bulbous stock was plentiful all the week. Paper Whites and Romans were down as low as $2 per hundred. "Valley and lilies sold well and there were plenty of these to be had. The weather was splendid all the week, but today we are having a good, old-fashioned winter blast. Prices, no doubt, will go down somewhat this week. Various Notes. The C. Young & Sons Co. has the decorations for the Imperial ball this week. Six hundred fancy Beauties will be used in this decoration. The firm reports a splendid Christmas and New Year's business. On Monday night, January 8, the St. Louis Retailers' Association will hold its first meeting in the new year. President Sanders hopes the members will take notice of this and come out in full force.
