Case XVIII.—Infected Tubo-Ovarian Cyst, and Early ChronicEndo-and Peri-Salpingitis. Aged seventeen years. Unmarried. Never pregnant. Internedfor venereal disease by the State. Exposure to venereal infectionbegan fifteen months prior to operation. The gross specimen consists of a Fallopian tube exhibiting fibrousthickening of its proximal end, with gradual enlargement towardthe distal end. The tube has been occluded by inflammatory change, with cyst formation and massing of the ovary. The midportion 266 JAMES E. DAVIS, of the tubal wall shows a thickening of 4 mm., and the lumen isfilled with organizing pus. Microscopic Examination.—Section (a) consists entirely of ovariantissues in which are Graafian follicles undergoing cystic is also one small Case —Drawing of gross specimen. Lower.—Photomicrograph of cross section taken at c, showing markedlateral fusing of folds. Section (b) shows both ovarian and tubal structures. TheTpartof the cyst wall shown in the section is constructed of ovarian tubal wall is diffusely infiltrated with small round cells of mixed CHANGES IN THE OVIDUCT. 267 types. The mucosa shows long, hypertrophic, hyperplastic foldswith frequent narrow pedicled bases. The stroma is densely in-filtrated with small round cells. The lumen contains a large massof pus-cell debris. The cellular infiltration process extends intothe ovarian tissue. Section (c) shows a much thickened wall with marked increase offibrous tissue. There is a diffuse small round cell infiltration inthe circular muscle layer, and a focal infiltration of the same type ofcells in the longitudinal muscle layer. The mucosa shows exten-sive lateral fusing of the folds. Th
