Picture by Roger Bamber 27 March 2001 Boatman Christian Funnell inspects the giant twin hulls of the catamaran Diamant which is being used by Hoverspeed at the start of the cross Channel route from Newhaven to Dieppe. The speedy Seacat with a speed of 38 knots will be joined soon by a conventional ferry service owned by a French consortium including Conseil General of the Seine Maritime which is buying Newhaven Port The catamaran will make three return crossings daily with a journey time of two hours
