Most of the streams ofany importance, however, embrace ^^ithin single systems both ad-justed and transverse features. Thus, Wills Creek follows yieldingstrata for a long distance, only to turn abruptly across Wills Mountainat Cumberland. Its principal tributary on the south, Braddock Run,also follows an adjusted course in part, but above Allegany Grove itis located transversely across Piney Mountain. Jennings Run issimilar. 42 TUE PHYSIOGRAPHY OF ALLEGAXY COUNTY The streams of the Ridge District are thus seen to show threedifferent classes-or degrees of adjustment to the arrangement of theunderlying rocks. These three degrees are of double first sight it is evident that only the smaller and weaker, perliapsalso only the younger, streams belong to the first class, which includesthe streams closely adjusted to the smaller differences among therocks.
