Monument to Leopold I (1790-1865), first king of the Belgians, at the exact location where he entered the nation on 17 July 1831 in De Panne, Belgium

The Leopold I Memorial is a monument in the West Flemish town of De Panne, located by the sea opposite the Leopold I esplanade. The monument commemorates the fact that Prince and later King Leopold I came from Dunkirk, accompanied by the French cavalry, on 17 July 1831 on horseback over the beach to De Panne to be received there by a committee of notables. The monument, located near the sea, includes a natural stone gate, designed by Victor Martiny, containing a bronze statue of Leopold I, made by René Cliquet. It was inaugurated on October 5, 1958. On the gate is the text : "Hic Leopoldus primus belgarum rex XVII die mensis julii a ° MDCCCXXXI terram belgicam ingressus est et solemniter receptus". Here Leopold I, King of the Belgians, entered Belgian soil on 17 July 1831 and was solemnly received.
