A motor-driven winch used by the 16th Balloon Company during World War One. The winch had the capability to handle a balloon with 1500 meters of cable, releasing it at a rate of 500 meters per minute and bringing it down at a rate of 7 meters per second. Four members of the company are seen in the photograph: Sergeant M. B. Reid, R. L. Garwood, Sergeant H. B. Barness, and C. G. Rolf.
