San Marino Many ranges branch from the eastern end of the of these turn towards the southeast and divide intosmaller ranges forming the highland in the Balkan penin-sula. This broad peninsula stretches from theBlack sea to the Adriatic. The Balkan range is the highest in thepeninsula. These mountains extend east andwest along the southern border of the Danubebasin.
