As soon as theanimal falls to the ground the ropes are tightened and animalrolled on its back—dorsal position. The hind feet should bedrawn down close to the abdomen and secured by one or morehalf hitches around each hind pastern. Halter burns can beavoided by first applying bandages around hind pasterns. Itis advisable to use cotton rope when possible in casting and re-, straining horses by this method. Lerriberg Casting Ropes. The fore pasterns should now be fixedtogether by means of a short cross rope or strap (a) (b). Themain ropes should be carried downward under cross rope (a)(b), then backward to and through hobble strap rings on eachhind pastern (d) (e) ; thence upward on each side of horse;then over the back (f).
