John Glover (1817-1902), British industrial chemist. Born in Newcastle, he worked at the Felling Chemical Works (near Gateshead), the Washington Chemical Works (near Sunderland), and the Carville Chemical Works (near Wallsend). As well as working in the production of alkalis, Glover's best known invention is the Glover Tower, which allowed improved production of sulphuric acid. He was a member of the Society of Chemical Industry, and was awarded that organisation's Gold Medal in 1896.
