He received amost liberal education, hav-ing been kept diligently at schoolfrom the time he was five years ofage. In 1760 he entered Williamend Mary College. Williamsburg was then the seatof the Colonial Court, and it was the obode of fashionand splendor. Young Jefferson, who was then 17years old, lived somewhat expensively, keeping finehorses, and much caressed by gay society, yet hewas earnestly devoted to his studies, and irreproacha-able in his morals. It is strange, however, undersuch influences,that he was not ruined.
