Y., Dec. 15, 1769, his boyhood wasmainly spent there, and Uving in that eventful Revolutionaryperiod, and on the border ground, almost within hearing of thebattles of Stillwater and Saratoga, in which his father participat-ed, he must have been thoroughly imbued with the patrioticspirit of those stirring times, for at the age of fourteen he enlist-ed in Col. Willetts command, and did dut> on what was thenthe western frontier of the State, until the cessation of had already attained to the ordinary stature of a man, andwas physically competent to bear arms.
