NGC 524 lenticular galaxy. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) combined optical and infrared image of the centre of the lenticular galaxy NGC 524. Lenticular galaxies are usually the remains of an old spiral galaxy, a bright disc full of old, red stars surrounded some gas and dust. This galaxy is around 90 million light years from Earth, in the constellation of Pisces. The image data was obtained by the HST's Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2). Image published in 2013.
