White-backed vulture (Gyps africanus) in flight. The bird gets its name from the white feathers on its back, which contrasts with its brown head, black beak and wings that are also a mix of white and brown. In October 2015, the white-backed vulture was classified as 'critically endangered' on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. Photographed in Chobe National Park, Botswana.
