The war for the preservation of the Union had pro-gressed only about four months when the Thirty-seventhRegiment of Indiana volunteers went into camp atLawrenceburg. Some few companies went into campabout the 1st of August, 1861, and by the 18th of thatmonih the Regiment contained nearly its full quota ofstrong young men. They were patriots who were de-termined to preserve the LTnion and crush that mostwicked rebellion against their good government nomatter what it should cost in blood and treasure.
