Santo Pietro fascist town. Church and buildings. Sicily

Town designed in 1923 by the Royal Commissiario Benedict Fragapane in place of an already existing village built in 800. This city steeped in the Santo Pietro woods, should have had the name of Mussolinia in honor of the fascist dictator. Mussolini himself participated at the beginning of the work with the laying of the foundation stone on May 12, 1924. The project involved a plant radial around a town square surrounded by colonnades buildings equipped with towers inspired by buildings in use in the Roman Empire. Despite Mussolini followed the work personally this did not go beyond the initial plan because of bureaucratic problems and a feud broke out between the fascists of Caltagirone. The project was therefore abandoned.
