Many horsemen will be interested inknowing just how the growth of the hoofof a horee takes place. Dr. John contributes an interesting dis-cussion of the point in Farmers BulletinNo. 179, of the U. S. Department of Agri-culture in his treatise on says: All parts of the hoof growdownward and forward with equalrapidity, the rate of growth being largelydependent upon the amount of bloodsupplied to the pododerm, or and regular exercise, goodgrooming, moistness and suppleness ofthe hoof, going barefoot, plenty of goodfood, and at proper intervals removing theovergrowth of hoof and regulating thebearing surface, by increasing the volumeand improving the quality of the blocdflowing into the poddde m, favor therapid growth of horn of good quality;wnilelack of exercise, dryness of the horn,and execdssive length of the hoof hindergrowth. The average rate of growth is aboutone-third of an inch a month. H
