Breast cancer surgery. Image 1 of 9. Surgeon injecting a blue tracing dye into a woman's breast to enable the surgeon to locate the lymph nodes. In this operation, called a modified radical mastectomy, the entire breast tissue and surrounding lymph nodes are being removed in order to remove the malignant (cancerous) tumours. The surgeon will then reconstruct the breast by moving part of the latissimus dorsi back muscle into the breast and inserting a prosthetic implant. For a series showing this procedure, see images M122/497 - M122/505.
