Its apse is surrounded with awall arcading of five arches springing from columnsof beautiful breccia, with white marble capitals ofa thoroughly Byzantine type (Fig. ti8). The twonorthern columns of the dome belong to the four-teenth century work of the central nave ; but theother two at the south-east and south-west cornersare original, and have capitals which are rude. -tig- 117- Ch.
