Inthe autumn of 1861 the 112th Regiment(Second Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery) was organ-ized by Charles Angeroth, who had been identifiedas colonel with the 2d Regiment, WashingtonBrigade, and as lieutenant-colonel with the 27thRegiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Thiscommand was intended to be a siege or field regi-ment to conform to the regulations of the UnitedStates Army. Ten companies were raised in Phila-delphia and in the counties of Franklin, Alleghenyand Monroe.
