I enjoyed the trip and had an easy time as to duties in theWestern and Rocky Mountains Campaign. We used to killantelope, which we cooked in many styles. One day whilehunting antelope with Lieutenant Ingersoll and two others, wehad a skirmish with a Cinnamon bear, which we did not enjoyor relish at all. Lieutenant Ingersoll said it was the closestcall and most fearful moment he ever experienced, as the oldCinnamon fell dead about two feet from 270
