John Sharpe, a clergyman of character and ability, was oneof the early clergy upon the rolls of the Society for the Propagation ofthe Gospel in Foreign Parts. His chief station under the society was inEast Jersey. Prior to this he appears to have been stationed in Maryland,probably under orders of the Bishop of London. (Nichols to Stubs —Perrys Historical Collections, vol. iv., pp. 54, 349). But little is knownof this clergyman. Upon the rolls of the venerable society he is enteredas having been sent out in 1704, after which his career, so far as the societygoes, seems to be a blank, for immediately after his name and date isentered resigned. According to the above entry by Dominie Falckner,he was still performing religious rites as late as 1712. Another
