Corbar Cross, Buxton Derbyshire.

A familiar landmark on the skyline of Derbyshire town of Buxton, this image shows Corbar Cross, situated on Corbar hill high above woodlands planted to disguise the sandstone quarry workings made when Buxton's important early architecture was being set out. It is a place where the views across the surrounding countryside are superb. Corbar Cross was given to the Roman Catholic Church by the Duke of Devonshire in 1950, to commemorate Holy Year. The cross stands at a height of 437 metres above sea level, and on most days, the only company to be had here are the sheep and perhaps a skylark.
