Coloured low temperature-scanning electron micrograph (LT-SEM) of a sailing mite (Excelsotarsonemus tupi). This species is able to bring its gnathostome (head and jaw) inside its body in a similar manner to a tortoise. It is believed that the modified setae (hari-like structures, blue) are what allow sailing mites to glide in the air.
