Bristlecone forest and the Milky Way. View of the Milky Way, its nebulae and two of its constellations (labelled and represented by artworks) over ancient twisted bristlecone pine trees. The constellations are Sagittarius (the Archer) and Scorpius (the Scorpion). The labelled objects are: the star Antares, the Galactic Centre, and the Messier objects M4 and M22 (globular clusters), M8 and M17 (nebulae), and M6, M23, M24, M25, M16 and M11 (open star clusters). Photographed in Cedar Breaks National Monument, southern Utah, USA. Bristlecone pines (Balfourianae) are believed to live longer than any other known organism, some reaching ages of 5000 years.
