While the overarching goal is to develop and test command and control of forces at sea, training in this exercise will address the spectrum of maritime operations. Navies from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Spain and the United States are participating in UNITAS Atlantic 48-2007 off the coast of Argentina. UNITAS is a combined South American- and annual exercise that incorporates forces from several participating nations. Argentina is hosting this year's Atlantic phase. UNITAS enables the assembled forces to organize and conduct combined naval operations in a multinational task force and test its responsiveness to a variety of maritime scenarios.
