Dalmore Pier, or Alness Pier was also known as the Yankee Pier as it was built by American Navy personnel who were stationed at Dalmore from 1917. The distillery became the headquarters of Naval Base 17 as part of the Northern Barrage defences. A floating dry dock was used during WW2 to service seaplanes such as the Sunderland.
