5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 19, 2018) The dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Alan Shepard (TAK-E 3), right, and the fleet replenishment oiler USNS Lariemie (T-AO 203) transit together following a replenishment-at-sea between USNS Alan Shepard and the guided-missile destroyer USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109) . Dunham is deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
