It will beno surprise to the company to find that the four-track systemwill have to be extended in less than a year. After the work of four-tracking to Watts has been com-pleted the next step will be that of building a line from SantaAna to Newport Bay to connect with the line just completedto that point from Newport Beach, and known as the East. THE NEW EXPRESS CAR FOR THE ILLINOIS TRACTION SYSTEM Newport Branch. The East Newport line, which was openedto traffic only a few days ago, is two miles long, from New-port Beach east across the Southern Pacific tracks to the makes the Newport Beach line the longest of the entirePacific Electric System,—forty miles. The schedule timefrom Los Angeles to the end of this line is i hour minutes. From Mount Lowe, the farthest point north,to the farthest point south and east on the Pacific Electricsystem the distance is 55 miles. The new East Newport linebuilding was encouraged largely by the fact that privateenterprise had decided to make a big beach resort out of thebay town and has built a large pavilion and skating rink;also that the Pacific Electric has just finished work on apower ])lant at the point where the new line crosses theSouthern Pacific tracks.
